DishTV India - A Bad experience

In response to "Dish TV or Triple Play", here is a bad consumer experience and review of Zee's DishTV quality of service and customer satisfaction.

It took 15 days and numerous phone calls to the shopkeeper, service center, Zee head office, n number of sales people, technicians to get them to come over to my home and install the DISH TV antennae. DISH TV phone helpdesk standard response was that they don’t handle setups and I should talk to the dealer. Dealer said talk to service center. Service center said they’re sending the guy and never sent him.

This was not the end of it..now another week passed before the maxi service got activated. This too after tons of phone calls where I was always told it would be taken care of, but never happened.

Now the BIG shock….I expected good quality Video, somewhere near DVD quality since this being digital n all….No such luck…this is a majorly compressed MPEG2 video feed !! It is worse than VCD quality. Sound is near MONO unless you use headphones. I thought that signal strength maybe causing this, but I had 75-76% signal, which DISH TV tech said was the max he had seen himself. people usually get 60-65%.

Damn !! My cable looked and sounded so much better with full bandwidth, and this DTH looked like small video clip made full screen on my 29 inch TV. I guess it’s passable on smaller 21′’ screens but looks bad and patchy on a 29′’.

My advice…don’t go for this DTH hype till they improve their service.
P.S. another thing…they recently did a software upgrade and dumbed down the set top box. now you cannot make any system changes and can’t even see the signal strength. The channel surfing has also become a pain..instead of quickly shifting between screenful of channel menu, now I have to scroll through each and every channel to reach the desired channel. Their telephone support says there is no way to go back to the old firmware. They claim this new one is very user friendly. How is it user friendly when the users don’t like it?? their active channels are just marketting hype to attract new customers comparing their service with TATA SKY. No one watches their silly active patchwork.

I don’t know about TATA SKY but DISH TV will give you that cheap “quantity and no quality” feeling that reliance CDMA phones gave. I don’t think TATA SKY would be any different.

I would also like to share some of my experiences with respect to the poor customer service of Zee's dishtv.

I am a resident of Chennai and as many other Chennai-ites, watching TV was getting boring day by day thanks to Indian Government's decision to implement CAS in chennai without any proper planning. I decided to go for a dishtv connection as it was the only private DTH service provider and had taken the connection in Feb 2006. However this turned out to be disaappointing due to following facts.

1. The video quality of dishtv is not of DVD quality as publicised. One can easily compare it with the quality of VCD and mpeg.

2. The design of antenna has a fault and during strong winds gets disoriented leading to fall in signal quality and loss of few channels.

3. The software of Zenega 1006 set top box has a fault. After switching on the box and few minutes later, the channel/favourite list menu contains only frame and the contents disappear. Beyond this selecting favourite channels is tough and only way restoring things are by restarting the STB. The problem nevertheless resurfaces in 5 minutes again.

4. Some of channels order in favourites disappear than and there and ones needs to re-enter them again.

5. The so called software upgrade of STB has not happened so far for my STB. I got that reply that "it is planned" when I checked up with customercare.

6. I had registered complaints on the portal of dishtv around July, but they are not addressed till date. The complaint registration module of the portal also has lots of errors. So I believe that they lack sincerity is resolving customer complaints and decided not to log any more complaints on their portal.

7. If you call up dishtv customer care, you get hold of them after a long time. For most of the calls to them, they ask you to contact the local service center or dealer. The dealer asks you to call the customer care. I had once requested the local service center to correct the alignment of the antenna, however the local service center said that they will charge me Rs 150. The antenna is the backbone of DTH system and I feel it is the fault in their design which causes frequent misalignments.

Finally I would like to advise all those who plan to buy a DTH connection to please weigh the options carefully before opting for it. The technology is really superior than what we had till now, but quality and service is still a long way to go. With a big market in front and with entry of TataSky, hopefully dishtv will realize the importance of their customers.

I would also like to share some of my experiences with respect to the pathetic customer service of Zee's dishtv.

My last payment was due on 15th Dec, 2006 & I have paid the same on 09th Dec, 2006 by dropping a cheque in the dorp box at Sooraj Medicals, Vishranthwadi, Pune. The amount was deducted from my account on 13th Dec, 2006.

However DishTV denied their services from 16th Dec, 2006 onwards saying that they haven't got my payments. I have contacted their customer care (Complaint No. 4821831) and their executive adviced me to send me the bank statement to resolve this problem soon. I have forwarded my bank statement by fax immediately and contact them after 24 hrs (Spend Rs. 21 for fax). Very surprisingly the customer care executive informed me that they haven't got my fax. He adviced me to send the fax again and I have rejected his advice very flatly.

Again I have contacted their distributor Meltek Sytems, Karadi, Pune. The Manager - Operations took my bank statement and faxed to somebody and give me an assurance that the service will be activated within 24 hours. Again nothing happend after 3 days.

Later I send a mail with my bank statement as attachment to their customer care (customerinfo@dishtvindia.com, customercare@dishtvindia.com). Again the same story - NO RESPONSE.

Now I have only one option left - justice through a Consumer Court... Nothing Else.

I never ever experienced such a bad customer care in my whole life.

I would also like to share my experiences with u all...

I m a resident of ahmedabad...

the service is really very poor..
the video quality is not at all good what is being advertised...

the video on demand service sucks...it takes more than 10hrs if u order a movie thru SmS...n that also is quite costly at 50bucks as one can easily get a vcd on rent at less than 20bucks...

Also we cannot order the movie that we desire but we have to select frm few movies that r currently available for few days....
also only movies that were not very successful at box office i.e. nearly flop movies r available o select from...

atleast i was able to watch new movies as cable operator was showing....

We cannot select channels as per our choice but we to select packages...like if dont want to c some channels in zee or other package...we cannot do this...one need to pay 4 all d unnecessary channels that we dont require along with d desired channels...

and dont b fooled by free channels...
only few channels r of our requirement and all others r useless...

thers no perfect relation betwn dealer and dishtv...

I even get calls from dish network from delhi for paying the subscription charges even after i have paid in advance for that....

the software just hangs sometimes n one needs to restart the system...

the program guide is poor as its not available for most of the important channels...

sometimes the program guide suddenly hanngs n remote stops workin...

the Stb i get is also of poor quality...very cheap electronic parts r used...

so suggest if any1 reading this n eager to buy dish tv must think ten times b4 that...as the tata sky might b somewat cotly bt the service offered is very good....

How things can be bad, dishtv India is a live example of the same. How customers are taken for a ride can be effectively learned from dishtv India. I have paid full subscription for a year. But I am not been able to enjoy the dishtv as picture quality is very poor. After so many contacts over phone, I am now tired. I want to save money on my phone calls made to dishtv India. On 08-09-2009, response was received from their Noida office, lots of assurances were given but no improvement. I have made complaint through consumer forum also. I want my full one year's subscription and the money spend on purchse of dishtv. I will not allow company to take a ride. I plan to take my setup box with plycard advising people not to buy dishtv and will explain the whole story through plycard. They must learn that hard earned money cannot be taken without providing service. Devinder Puri - 9239012486

Service of DISHTV oflet has gone to boots. Customercare centres are not at all responsive to the customers. Inspite issuing proper complaint No ie 43161599 no engineer reported to my residence to attend the complaint.
